The long-awaited Sotra-Noreg 0 Euro note is now available, and we are very proud of having issued this design in cooperation with the Norwegian artist Jan Vindenes and his team. Jan is well-known in Norway for various projects, amongst others for having built a statue in the form of a whale to raise awareness for the problem of maritime pollution by plastics, after a dead whale had beached in Sotra whose stomach and colon were full with huge amounts of plastic waste and debris.

The design of the note shows the monument of the plastic whale that was built by Jan in Sotra, a large island in Øygarden Municipality in Vestland county in Norway. The design also depicts the local landscape of mountains, forests, beautiful Nordic style houses and the castle nearby, which are all iconic landmarks of the island, and is to show that Sotra island is a beautiful place for tourists to visit and explore.
